Youth Circus Theatre
BandBazi's inclusive Youth Circus Theatre evolved from the Above and Beyond project that ran from 2006-2007. It is an inclusive multicultural youth theatre supported by the Baring Foundation to develop work with asylum seekers and refugees but is open to all. The group have created several pieces of devised theatre for public performance, which have incorporated trapeze, bungee, rope, physical theatre, street dance and other elements.
Two sell-out shows have been performed at Brighton Pavilion Theatre: The Last Meeting (2006) and A Place For Us (2007). In July 2008 a Bungee Breakdance production was created for Kala Phool's Rising Styles Block Party hip-hop event on Brighton Seafront. In June 2009 and June 2010 BandBazi's Youth Circus Theatre performed at Pavilion Theatre in two cabaret style events that launched a programme of Refugee Week events in Brighton and Hove. Both were organised by BandBazi. At the 2010 Refugee Week Cabaret a group of 8-13 year old performed a bungee hip-hop piece that was created for a Novas Scarman funded 10 week project.

In 2009 BandBazi was commissioned by Brighton and Hove City Council’s Healthy Schools department and Community Safety Partnership to create a short film that would encourage young people to challenge and report racially and religiously motivated bullying. Members of the Youth Circus Theatre collaborated with pupils form Varndean School to create the learning resource DVD See It! Say It! Stop It! which was completed in July 2010. The film combines personal testimony, aerial circus, animation, interviews and factual information about reporting racist incidents.

BandBazi Youth Circus Theatre weekly classes run during term time at Hangleton Community Centre in Hove. Anyone aged 11-25 is welcome to attend the workshops. There are a limited number of free places available.
