CREATIVE WRITING AND DRAMA WORKSHOPS
FOR REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS
About the Project
BandBazi is pleased to announce it has been awarded funding by The National Lottery Awards 4 All to hold a series of creative writing and drama workshops with 3 Brighton based groups:
The Sudanese and Arabic Speaking Elderly Association; Brighton Voices in Exile and the Migrant English Project.
The workshops were for refugees and asylum seekers aged 26+ and took place between March and July 2007. Refreshments, interpreters and a crèche were provided as necessary and workshops were led by BandBazi's Artistic Director, Philippa Vafadari.
There was an opportunity for the participants of the project to present their work during an evening of performances, readings and discussion at the launch event of Refugee Week, 2007.
BandBazi is constantly looking to involve diverse communities in theatre, either as workshop participants, focus groups or audience members, as well as running workshops in schools and colleges. The company believes that the performing arts provide participants with an invaluable means of self-expression, assisting with integrating disparate cultures into Britain and benefiting the host community - Britain itself.
